Lautenberg Reintroduces Legislation to Bar Terrorists from Obtaining Explosives Licenses or Permits

01/24/2013

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) introduced S. 34, legislation he had submitted in the 112th Congress, which among other things, would permit the Attorney General to deny ATF explosives licenses to known or suspected dangerous terrorists.  Even though ATF vets responsible persons and explosive possessors against the terrorist screening database and may identify known or suspected terrorists, being a terroist is currently not a disqualifying offense under the Safe Explosives Act (SEA). If a known or suspected terrorist mets the qualifications of the SEA, ATF would have to provide a license or permit.
