PHMSA Accepts IME/AESC Standard

06/25/2018

Originally developed in 2008 with DOT/PHMSA, the IME/AESC Jet Perforating Gun (JPG) Standard has been successfully used to process hundreds of jet perforating gun systems without the need for costly laboratory testing and with minimal processing time at PHMSA.  After 9 years of testing and at the request of PHMSA, IME and the Association of Energy Service Companies (AESC) completed a review of the JPG Standard that has resulted in a new Version 02 which was effective on September 1, 2017.  Version 02, which is now being used by PHMSA to process JPG approval applications, implements some changes that affect approvals issued under the original (2008) version.  These changes and required industry action are explained in an industry notification published by IME and AESC on June 12, 2018.   You may obtain a copy of the industry notification at the following:

Additionally, as agreed with PHMSA in 2008 and again in 2017, IME and AESC have petitioned PHMSA to incorporate by reference (IBR) Version 02 (2017) of the standard into PHMSA’s Hazardous Materials Regulations.  PHMSA has accepted the IME/AESC petition and expects to include it in a proposed rulemaking (expected summer 2018).
