IME says "No Thank You" to OSHA's PSM Proposal

08/12/2016

IME filed comments with the Small Business Advocacy Review Panel on OSHA’s contemplated changes to its Process Safety Management (PSM) program.  Among other things, IME views the possible expansion of PSM to include ammonium nitrate (AN) as unnecessary and duplicative regulation.  The most immediate and effective path to ensuring the safe management of AN and the protection of workers and communities is by updating the agency’s existing AN standard at 29 CFR 1910.109(i).  While no explosions of AN have occurred at facilities complying with the existing standard, IME has recommended a number of improvements and best practices to OSHA that would further enhance the current regulation’s effectiveness.
