IME Moves to Protect ATF Programmatic Funding Serving the Commercial Explosives Industry

01/15/2016

In the past, the portion of ATF’s budget for programs serving the commercial explosives industry has been tapped to pay for new political initiatives.  After President Obama announced his executive order to reduce gun violence, IME was determined not let history repeat itself.  On January 13, 2016, IME sent letters to the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees with jurisdiction over ATF’s budget reminding them of the industry’s importance to the economy, the fact that the industry is dependent upon official ATF actions to operate, and requested the industry not be unduly impacted by any reprogramming initiatives.  IME specifically referenced the importance of having enough qualified inspectors to keep pace with requirements to review licensees, and the importance of funding the U.S. Bomb Data Center and the National Center for Explosives Training and Research (NCETR).  IME will continue to fight to make sure the ATF programs that serve the industry are adequately funded.
