IME Files Comments on EPA's Risk Management Program
11/06/2014
On October 29, 2014 IME filed comments on EPA’s Request for Information (RFI) on the agency’s Risk Management Program (RMP) rule. Among other things, IME’s comments describe why the regulation of explosives, blasting agents, and ammonium nitrate under the RMP is unnecessary. IME points out that existing federal regulations already adequately provide for the safety and security of industry workers, the public and the environment in the manufacture, management, storage, use and disposal of commercial explosives products and precursors, and that additional regulation under the RMP would be redundant. The comments highlight the exceptional safety record of the commercial explosives industry and urge EPA to focus its limited resources on compliance assistance and enforcement of existing requirements.
