House Hearing Looks at the Problem of Unidentified Noncompliant Chemical Facilities
Today, House Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Security Technologies, held a hearing entitled "West Fertilizer, Off the Grid: The Problem of Unidentified Chemical Facilities." The hearing was focused on recommendations to identify and bring into compliance facilities that are unknown to regulators. IME submitted a statement for the record of the hearing. IME believes that compliance with current regulatory programs would likely have prevented the devastation. However, West Fertilizer had a long history of noncompliance. IME welcomes the opportunity to recommend industry best practices to keep the chemicals we use safe and secure and to assist agencies in their compliance efforts.
