IME Remembers Dave Lilly

It is with great sadness that we report that David P. Lilly, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at his home on Pawleys Island, SC following a great struggle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease..  Dave was an active member of IME up until his retirement from Dyno Nobel in 2010.  He served as the Chair of the Technical Committee and several Subcommittees. Dave worked in the Explosives Industry for 44 years and was  where he was considered a legend in the industry.  He was instrumental in the development of many IME recommendations and publications and was a true leader and technical authority in the field of explosives engineering. He will be greatly missed in the explosives industry and particularly the IME community.

Born in Charleston, W. Va., Dave was the son of the late Felix and Frances Lilly.  A devoted, husband, father and grandfather, he graduated from West Virginia University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in mining engineering and received his master’s degree from the University of South Carolina in 1979.  Statistical analysis was his passion.Survivors include his loving wife of 19 years, Karen Lilly; children, David P. Lilly, Jr., and his wife Amy; NC; Susan Whitlock and her husband Rob, PA; Ann Moore and her husband Trent; Tom Sisk and his wife Karin, WI; grandchildren, Kate Lilly, David P. Lilly III, Taylor Whitlock, Morgan Whitlock, Logan Whitlock, Abigail Moore, Paul Moore, Emily Groves, Collin Groves, Cameron Groves.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church with a repass following the service.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
