Wicsonsin Senate Narrowly Approves
03/01/2013
The Wisconsin Senate has narrowly approved WI SB 1 overhauling the permitting process for ferrous metallic mines and loosening environmental conditions for mining operations. The bill SB 1 now goes to the Assembly, which supported the legislation last year. Governor Scott Walker (R) is expected to sign the bill.
A key feature of SB 1 addresses the timeline by which the WI Department of Natural Resources processes mining permits. The proposed law would require DNR to issue or deny a mining permit no more than 420 days after the date on which the application is deemed administratively complete.
