Debra Satkowiak has served as the President of Institute of Makers of Explosives (IME) since 2014, working to advance the association’s mission of safety and security for the commercial explosives industry. Deb has executive director leadership responsibilities for the institute, engaging with IME’s Board of Governors, members, regulatory authorities, and the greater explosives community and stakeholders. Prior to her position with IME, Deb had a 23-year career with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Deb began her work with ATF as an inspector in Michigan and a decade later transferred to ATF headquarters to develop advanced explosives training. Among positions held, she served as the Detroit Area Supervisor; Chief of the Explosives Industry Programs Branch; Chief of Staff for the Office of Public and Governmental Affairs; Acting Chief of Staff in the Office of the Director; and Chief of the Firearms and Explosives Industry Division.
Deb is a Michigan native and graduated summa cum laude from Northwood University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. Deb and her husband currently reside in Maryland, where they spend any spare time keeping up with their two young children. She is the proud recipient of the 2014 International Society of Explosives Engineers President’s Award and was recognized in 2016 as one of “Washington’s Trending Association Leaders.”
