John Boling joined the staff of IME as director of Government Affairs in October 2015. John's started his professional career in Washington, DC serving as an intern on a Presidential Commission under President George H.W. Bush. Realizing that moving home to live with his parents was not going to be terribly fun, he stayed in DC to pursue a career in politics. After a three years with the Direct Marketing Association, John moved to Capitol Hill where he learned how the legislative process really works and the skills needed to impact it. Over the next seven years he rose through the ranks to become a legislative director for a Member of Congress. Having achieved his goal, John returned the association sector as a director of Government Relations to help the newly merged National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) establish itself as a presence on Capitol Hill.
Through his efforts, NSSGA saw numerous victories on Capitol Hill and an increase in political clout. Seeking to broaden his skill set, he moved over to the Council of Producers & Distributors of Agrotechnology, where he was responsible for all advocacy activities, running the political action committee, organizing the annual Washington conference, and membership activities.
John serves on the American Society of Association Executives Government Section Council, is a member of the Government Relations Leadership Forum, and a volunteer leader of PacPals, a group formed to help PAC administrators improve their knowledge and skill set.
John earned his undergraduate degree from the Minnesota State University at Mankato, and an Executive MBA from the Jack Welch Management Institute at Strayer University.
Residing in Alexandria with his wife, three kids and a dog, John has a new appreciation for minivans.
