IME Supports Permitting Reform Legislation

The Institute of Makers of Explosives applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for passing three permitting reform bills that will streamline regulatory requirements for manufacturers while maintaining robust environmental protections. H.R. 6387, the Fire Improvement and Reforming Exceptional Events (FIRE) Act; H.R. 6398, the Reducing and Eliminating Duplicative Environmental Regulations (RED Tape) Act; and H.R. 6409, the Foreign Emissions and Nonattainment Clarification for Economic Stability (FENCES) Act together introduce practical reforms to the Clean Air Act (CAA), whose permitting requirements are among the most time-consuming and burdensome in the United States.

Modernizing the CAA will provide commercial explosives manufacturers with greater certainty and flexibility to invest and grow, supporting the administration’s goal of energy dominance goals and strengthening critical sectors of the economy, including mining, critical minerals, quarrying, construction, and infrastructure.
