Sue Swanhorst is the Human Resource and Finance manager for the Institute of Makers of Explosives (IME). In this position, she manages the benefits, payroll, taxes, budget and finances for the organization.
Ms. Swanhorst originally came to the IME in 1992 as the administrative assistant and after nearly a year in that position, followed an opportunity to join the neighboring law firm of David, Hagner, Kuney & Davidson. There she further developed her skills in the finance department, producing, editing and processing numerous monthly financial reports.
After a 3 ½ year absence, Sue returned to the IME in 1997 to accept the position of manager of Finance & Meetings. While with IME, she continued her studies and graduated from George Mason University with a degree in organizational management.
Sue grew up in Wyoming, working there in the Campbell County Memorial Hospital accounting department for a number of years before moving East. At the hospital, she was responsible for compiling monthly statistical data and worked in various departments to ensure the accuracy of the financial records. She worked on the hospital’s annual budget and was instrumental in the transition from a manual to an online billing system.
Sue represents IME as a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Human Resource Association of the National Capital Area (HRA-NCA), and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
She is a very active volunteer in community programs, including the PTA, Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, the Childcare Development Center, Little League Baseball, and her church.
